Eine vllcht. etwas dämliche Frage.

Wo müssen die heruntergeladenen und entpackten Files hin um sie verwenden zu können ?

@Last Soldier: WOW!!!! Fantastisc new possibilities for map design. And on top of that also: "You can use it freely in any mod." Thank you very much! I will integrate these objects into my "little personal mod" immediately. A question about the car objects: Are these made from existing 3D models? Would it then be possible to make real units?

@Gareth: making units for Sust is really time consuming and it needs experience in it. But I can send 3D models to you, if you will to do it yourself.

I really would love to make units, especially some civil vehicles, but that is far beyond my skills at the moment. I just asked because I had always thought that 3D modeling was the hard part while rendering the needed bitmaps would be comparatively easy - at least for vehicles without a rotating turret or a semi transparent propeller.

There are some issues :) For me is the biggest problem insert all rendered *.bmp files into game files and setup all parameters. It's really slow with static objects (even if I have few *.bat files which do some dirty work) and with units is it 100x more complicated. Maybe someone knows any tricks.

3D modelling isn't hard, you can learn basics in 1-3 months. There are no extra details or high resolution textures needed beacuse scale is small. Also you can find lot of free 3D models on the internet. The entire rendering process can be automated, you only insert model into 3D scene (with camera and lights) and then just run some script which render all needed *.bmp files (hull, turret, damaged state, shadows..).

I'm making own game and if you will add new object and you have graphics, it means maybe 5x mouse clicks and 10 seconds? :) In Sust you can count it in hours.

Haven't tried 3D modeling yet, just had a quick look into Blender using a small tutorial from the web. I never found the time to get into details though. Building my "personal little mod" in very small steps and with many long pauses is all I can manage due to work and all those other annoying real life issues.
Can you recommend any software for 3D?

Edit: Didn't read your post carefully first so it slipped my attention that you mentioned your own game. What kind of game are you developing? And are you doing it all by yourself or in a bigger team?

What I know:
- Sust modders are using some older 3DSMAX versions (2011.., I'm using 2017), you can get education licence for free (for non-commercial products). Maybe it's too old school in some ways, modeling can be bit hard. But with tutorials like this it's not so bad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwjtKcG ... 1C&index=1
- Blender is good and freeware. Negative: user interface is completely crazy, confusing and often very hard to use. Otherwise it would be the best choice.
- Sketchup is good for start (also free), modeling is very easy and fast. But otherwise it is useless, there is no basic stuff like proper rendering.

Well, my goal is old school 2D RTS game inspired by Sudden Strike 2 with tactical/strategy map for planning military operations in singleplayer/campaign (like strategy map in Total War games) + classic multiplayer with lot of units on big maps :aaa2
I have not been looking for anyone, so there is no team yet. Anyway more people would be needed. Esp. someone who is capable of designing game mechanics, linked structures (like units/weapons/armor system), formulas and calculations - such technical things. So far, it's more like a "test project".

Thanks for your answer, I think I will stick with Blender then. In many tutorials it says that one will get accustomed to the UI and will learn to love it. We'll see...

Your game sounds really interesting. Would like to read more about it if you can find the time. At any rate keep up the work so that we get to play it one day. We really need a fine game like that since SuSt 4 seems to be sub par. :aaa6
