Hi.

My experiences:
RWM 8.0 maps can be converted with some graphics changed. The necessary changes regarding the map are not too large.
HS2-Maps have a much larger graphics loss up to total chaos. Only basic structures like cliffs and terrain types remain. Roads, objects and buildings are more or less completely messed up. The map has to be rebuilt 75-90%
PWM 2.0 Island scheme maps are converted with only few graphics lost. Other PWM schemes are incompatible similar to HS2-maps (PWM jungle scheme becomes european winter scheme).


Would be nice if this could be fixed but I doubt that this will be possible without reorganising the editor = muuuch work.

final layout of pockets:

legend shows the various pocket configurations and affected groups of enemy units outside of Lauban. Small center (blue line) only affects b1, large pocket (red line) affects all groups. All pockets will affect enemy units in Lauban (groups not included here).

Once pocketed, the affected groups will suffer a penalty to hp and/or xp and/or ammo. I have to test to determine the best scenario.

The player will be free to choose any route across the map. The ultimate objective will be to rout the 3rd guard tank army in and around Lauban. This can of course also be achieved in a frontal attack through Lauban, ignoring the strategic advantage of encirclement altogether. It will be entirely up to the player.

I'm now thinking of ways to make the whole pocketing scenario work. There has to be some sort of strategic benefit from achieving a pocket.

Right now I'm experimenting with 'vision' as a reward. I.e, whenever a pocket event is achieved, the pocketed towns will be revealed to the player, making it easier to capture them. Maybe I will implement some sort of switch that temporarily reinstitutes the fog of war so it doesn't become a turkey shoot.

This way, the smallest pocket (center) will reveal one town.
The other 2 small pockets (left and right) will reveal 2 towns.
The medium pocket will reveal 3 towns
The large pocket will reveal 4 towns and the artillery battery in the north east.

All pockets will reveal any of the lost Lauban districts (center, north, east, west) and the area surrounding Lauban.

Mission approach on playtough shown in above screenshots:

My aim is to achieve pocket variant 'Large'. Once the large pocket has been established many parts of the pocketed area will be revealed, providing a significant advantage over a frontal attack approach.

Smaller pocket variants (medium, small left, small right and small center) will only reveal areas enclosed by the given pocket variant.

The ultimate goal is to destroy as large a part of the 3rd Guard tank army as possible and to clear Lauban of enemy presence (provided that it was lost).
