SuSt multipurpose tool
Author: d_sprague (MT, USA)
SuSt_Stuff.exe - how to use it

download the zip file (SuSt_Stuffxxx.zip - the *** is the 'version' number) and unzip it into your Sudden Strike installation folder.

when it starts, the program displays a folder structure to the left and files within the current folder to the right.

this program was / is being developed working with SuSt Forever. some of the information may not exactly fit SS2 file formats or folder structures. feel free to notify me of changes to fit SS2.

mission documentation

navigate to the folder where editor maps are stored and select the desired map and mission folder. a button will appear to the right that says 'document mission'. click this button to get a text document describing the mission.

count objects on map

select a map.*** folder in the left window. the files that make up the map will be displayed. click on the file named 'objects'. the program will count the different objects on the map. it may take awhile for this. in SuStF, the editor allows more objects to be placed on a map than the game engine can handle. Hethassje found this out with a map with over 65,000 objects. stuff goes away at the bottom right area of the map.

COL file editor feature

you have already unsued the SuSt files somewhere. there are a couple of UNITS folders in the unsued structures. look for one that has COL, PCK and HOT files in it. these are unit graphics for tanks and stuff.

click on one of the COL files in the list. a color palette should appear to the right. images of the unit should appear to bottom left.

click on a color in the palette. you may modify it by using the sliders. use the 'save color' button to store the color into the palette.

you may modify a range of colors all at once. select the start of the range with the left mouse button. select the end of the range with the right button. use the sliders to modify the colors. use the 'gray scale' button to change these colors to gray scale. use the 'save colors' button to store the colors in the palette.

to deselect a range use the right mouse button by clicking a color before the start of the range or the left mouse button after the end of the range.

use the 'save COL file' button to write the colors to the file.

experiment with the checkboxes - you can spin the images and see palette selections on the big image.

desc_common browser

i have created a my_mod folder in my SuStF installation folder. i have unsued some of the SuStF files into this folder so i could mod the game to my taste. my 'switcher' is a bat file that replaces the sudtest.ini and edit2.ini files with files that have pointers to my_mod (or to APRM or RWM folders when i was looking at them).

the desc_common.sue was unsued into the \my_mod\desc_common folder for my mod work. when i select the desc_common folder with this program, a button appears to the right saying 'sight, health, speed'. click this to see a list of the units in the game.

the list will show the unit class, name used in the game, and the sight, health and speed settings from the unit files. double click on a unit in the list and notepad will open with that file ready for you to edit.

later ...
