Hi all,
I've been building something I think a few of you will get a kick out of: Under Fire, a free, browser-based World War II real-time tactics game. It's still early, but it runs today and you can jump into a skirmish in seconds. No install, no sign-up.
It's proper individual-unit tactics: cover, suppression, stance, line of sight, the works, set in 1940. I've tried to treat the period with respect. The aim is historical plausibility and doing the era justice, not glorifying any of it.
It's also fully open source and built in the open (a good chunk of it with AI assistance), so if you ever fancy getting your hands dirty (models, sound, maps, mechanics, or just setting my history straight) jump in. And if you'd rather just play and tell me what's broken, that's gold too.
Have a look:

Well, as you wrote: It is an early version and as such it is still quite raw. Placeholder models, french speech samples from Sudden Strike, pathfinding by pushing other units to the side, no realistic unit attributes (e.g. ammo, hp). There is a lot of work ahead of you if you want it to be comparable to real time tactics classics like SuSt or BK.
I hope you will find some more people assisting in this task.
What I really did not like were the doctrines which are announced as coming soon. This way of giving the player different bonuses for different doctrines is absolutely not realistic imo. Sorry, but this would kill the fun for me. But it is your game, so do whatever you want with it. I will at least have a look from time to time.

Thanks! I was waiting for someone to say this, I will remove doctrines entirely to focus on realism and historical accuracyGareth hat geschrieben: 24.06.2026, 15:09 Well, as you wrote: It is an early version and as such it is still quite raw. Can you make it like Steel Division 2, as a mod may be. I am serious not kidding this is good. By the way i am using Debian 13 with Firefox. Map is rolling side by side but not up and down cursor gets firefox sceen despite F11 full screen. You can also make it like the play cs site.
