How to extract files from SS4 archives

Beitrag von Casquebleu »

This tutorial was made with the beta version of SS4

Sudden strike 4 uses a game engine called Unity which is a cross-platform game engine developed by Unity Technologies. It is used to develop video games and simulations for computers, consoles and mobile devices. Currently, Sudden strike 4 (Beta) uses version 5.5.3p2 (You can check it by opening a file in "AssetBundles" folder with Wordpad).

In order to modify the game, it is necessary to first retrieve a tool which can extract different files such as textures, sounds, videos, models. This tool is called "Unity Assets Bundle Extractor". This tool (let's call it UABE) can extract and import files from unity archives. He can be found here.

But you can also take the full version here
AssetsBundleExtractor.rar
(2.49 MiB) 696-mal heruntergeladen
(version 2.1d with new type package with 5.6.0f3)

How to extract
Before you start, you must always make a backup of the archive that will be modified. This file is called unitmodels. It contains the textures and models of the game.

Make a copy and call it unitmodels_original

tuto_002.jpg
tuto_002.jpg (29.72 KiB) 14917 mal betrachtet

Now launch the UABE program

tuto_003.jpg
tuto_003.jpg (16.14 KiB) 14914 mal betrachtet

We will extract files from unitmodels_original. Don't worry, this will NOT modify it, UABE wil ask you to save this new file. So choose "File" => "Open" and select unitmodels_original

tuto_004.jpg
tuto_004.jpg (53.72 KiB) 14914 mal betrachtet

UABE will unpack the file (says YES)

tuto_005.jpg
tuto_005.jpg (11.71 KiB) 14914 mal betrachtet

Save it as unitmodels_WORK

Now, unitmodels_WORK file is unpacked, let's see how to extract files. First, select "Info"

This is the main windows where we will extract textures, sounds, models etc ... Then, you will have to sort by type to extract same files.

UABE let you extract :

- Textures as PNG or TGA (1)
- Models as OBJ (2)
- Sounds as WAV (3)
- Video as OGC (4)

Warning : you can only extract same files at a same time. If you want to extract différents types of files, you will have to sort by type et extract all textures, then all sounds etc ...

First, select (1) a texture (or several with SHIFT), click (2) on Plugins then chose (3) your format (here TGA) and selct OK bouton

Now save where you want on your hard disk

Hi, do you know how/where to get the plugins for the tool? Like .wav, tga, png?

After these errors the program starts normally but following your steps leads to this after clicking on "plugins":

I took the full version and extracted it onto the desktop.
Any idea on how to handle it?

Just tried it now with "sounds" archive without any problem. I could extract ambient sounds.

Where did you get the tools ? from here or on the link I posted ?

By the way, make sure you have Visual C++ 2013 as indicated in the pop up window.

Got this one from your post:

But you can also take the full version here
AssetsBundleExtractor.rar
(2.49 MiB) 20-mal heruntergeladen

What is curious...I have visual C++....installed a long time ago.

Still not able to get this to work.

I finally found the solution:
64 Bit Version is not working for me. 32 Bit version just works fine. Let's mod military18

Can you please try to import a soundfile?
I followed your steps from here:
viewtopic.php?f=169&t=18442

And I am only able to chose "export sound".

Which is really annoying. Editing textures works for me.

UABE plugins doesn't let you to edit sound file as I can see.
I Will read the creator forum to see if he has planned to add it in the tool.

OK, there is a solution which must be tested.

From "7daystodie.com" Forum

V1.7 has been released with a TextAsset plugin fix and a new AudioClip plugin.
The AudioClip plugin can export Unity 5 AudioClips to uncompressed .wav files using FMOD. Basically it plays the sound to the .wav file in "non-realtime" mode.
See this post if you want to import sounds.

------------------

If you want to add new sounds, you can create FMOD sound banks with the fsbank tool in the bin folder of the FMOD API
( http://www.fmod.org/download/ ). Only use one sound file at once. Press the build button and copy the .fsb file to the 7DaysToDie_Data folder.

You can export a dump of the AudioClip asset and change m_Source to the new file's name, set m_Offset to 0 and m_Size to the size of the new file in bytes you can lookup using the explorer. Then you can import the modified dump and save the .assets file.

I'm working on an AudioClip extractor but it probably won't work for vorbis files.
