Here's a simple tool for calculating soldier colors as found in the MISC file. Actual display color will further depend on a unit's base color as well as game gamma. Still, it may be useful for some of you. It also allows for copying the sld RGB value to the clipboard as text for quick pasting. Works with .NET framework 4 and higher.
