Unpacking and packing Sue, Aps, Pak files - new apps

Beitrag von JJJCZ »

Hello friends of the legendary game Sudden Strike.
With the advent of AI, new possibilities have opened up for creating programs that help edit game files.
I am not a programmer, but I managed to compile and rework old programs for unpacking *.sue-aps-pak files using AI.
I added the new programs to my profile - https://github.com/JJJCZ?tab=repositories.
I hope I uploaded it to GitHub correctly.
Greetings JJJCZ from the Czech Republic.

Es gibt ein noch interessanteres Werkzeug, das von AI geschrieben wurde. Ich werde die gesamte Funktionalität nicht beschreiben. Aber es ist für SSF

Hi, thanks for uploading the "ssf_studio" program.
It is an inspiring program, especially in terms of the structure of displaying many game and map data.
I have liked Sudden Strike games more or less since their inception. I have always tried to penetrate the structure of game files and map files, mainly for the purpose of translating all texts into Czech. Over the years, I have basically succeeded. The biggest challenge was to translate - or rather redraw the "menu" for SS1/SSF. And I succeeded. Also, translating maps for SS1/SSF was more complicated. I did it in HEXeditor. Thanks to the work of https://github.com/IvanishinV, I was able to use the "ssf-map-converter" program and it was easy. Many thanks!
With the rise of AI, there was an opportunity to start thinking about creating my own programs. Even though I don't know how to program code myself, I learned
to ask AI questions and compile scripts in compilers - first VB6 and then VS2026.
I decided to start a project "Decompiler of all Sudden Strike game maps" on the VB.NET platform
with a graphical user interface. Because there probably isn't a program that can unpack even SS-RW maps.
I basically finished the program and uploaded the scripts to GitHub - https://github.com/JJJCZ?tab=repositories
The decompiler can unpack SS1/SSF, SS2, SS-RW maps and all their modes into the respective Map Editors. Due to the size of the map files and the time required, I tested the individual project functions only to the necessary and limited extent. Most maps decompile fine and open in the "Map Editor". But a very small percentage of maps have an error or won't run after recompiling. This is due to a certain difference or not quite accurate decoder of some blocks..
I would very much welcome any further improvement, expansion of the project and correction of possible errors. For example, the processing and construction of the ssf_studio program is very interesting. It would be great to have a similar program for SS2/SSRW.
I wish you a lot of fun while testing my project!

Hello, thank you for your interest.
Your program "map converter SSF" was a great inspiration for me. And also from "AmericusMaximus". Actually, thanks to it I started working in VS2022 (now 2026).
But I didn't learn to program. Over time, I started to compose scripts little by little, which I gave to the AI based on correctly posed questions
and technical data. I don't really care what the program will be able to do, I rather enjoy the process of creation. Well, over time, it got better and better.
I was also annoyed that some programs from the history of Sudden Strike stopped working on newer versions of Windows.
I will be happy if you take a look at my program.
I think that the processing of SS-RW scripts was 100%. There are minor deviations in the processing of some blocks, e.g. I-UNAMES, I-UNITS, I-SUPPORT, especially in larger missions.
They interact with each other and the AI has quite a problem with it. For example, when I decompile the large RWM8 map "Drang nach Osten", the files load in the Map Editor without any obvious errors, but
after recompiling the map, it no longer starts. The blocks mentioned above are no longer identical to the blocks of the original map.
But that is rather an exception. SSF studio is also a great program. It would be good to expand it and process both SS2 and SS-RW data.
So I wish you much success, greetings Jiří (JJJCZ)!
